2 Tools You Can Use At Home To Keep Your Teeth Clean

Posted on: 29 November 2015

You should have your teeth professionally cleaned on a regular basis. The recommendation is that you should have them cleaned by your dentist every 6 months. When you get done with the appointment, your teeth usually feel really nice. You probably want to make sure that you keep that feeling for the next 6 months, until you can get into the dentist again. There are tools that you can use at home, other than your toothbrush or dental floss, which can help you keep that feeling.

Staining Tablets

You might think that staining your teeth won't help keep them clean, but you would be surprised. You may remember chewing red tablets when you were young and at the dentist's office. They showed where you had plaque and needed to work harder on brushing. You can buy them to use them at home too. If you use them every week or so, you will see where there is a plaque buildup and where you need to pay more attention. Getting rid of all that plaque will help to avoid cavities and gingivitis. The staining will come off with brushing and water, so you aren't going to walk around with red teeth for the rest of the day.

Tongue Scraper

That may sound like some kind of medieval torture device, but it really isn't. It's just a tool that you use to scrape food particles and bacteria off your tongue. It's usually a plastic tool with a dull scraping blade that you run over your tongue. It won't hurt you at all. Not only can it get rid of any food particles and bacteria off your tongue, it can help fight off bad breath as well.

If you don't want to try a tongue scraper, you can thoroughly brush your tongue. You may not get the exact same results as you would if you used a tongue scraper, but you will still get some benefit from it, and your mouth will still feel nice and fresh when you are done.

When you see your dentist regularly, they clean your teeth. The reason for this isn't just to leave you with a nice fresh mouth and gleaming teeth. The point of it is to make sure that your teeth are healthy and that you have no cavities. You can help keep that feeling by brushing and flossing every day and using a couple of tools that will make your brushing and flossing more efficient.
